German Cup Winner (Basketball)
The men's club cup was founded in 1966 by the German Basketball Federation (DBB). The first final of the men's DBB Cup took place on June 11, 1967 in Oberhausen between VfL Osnabrück and ATV 1877 Düsseldorf 86:74 (39:36). Since 2010, the Basketball Bundesliga has been playing its own cup competition as a league cup . The DBB cup competition was last held in 2010 without the participation of the first division clubs.
The foundation of the women's club cup took place eight years later in 1972.
Since 1993 for the men and 1995 for the women, the semi-finals and finals have been played in one tournament as the top 4 on one weekend. For the 2009/10 season, the men's cup mode was changed significantly. Lower-class teams no longer take part in the new league cup. The organizer of the Top 4 is automatically set as a participant. The remaining three starting places will be determined in three "quarter finals" of the best teams of the first half of the season. In the 2009/10 season, the DBB hosted its own trophy with second division and amateur teams as participants. Here, too, the winner was determined in a top 4. There were no participants for a second event. In the official lists, the association has the league cup winner as a cup winner.
