BBL Cup 2013

The Beko BBL-Pokal 2013 was the 4th edition of the cup competition in the German men's basketball club as the league cup of the first national basketball league . The organization of this competition is subordinate to the League Association of the Basketball Bundesliga and determines the German cup winner in club basketball for men.

The results in the first half of the 2012/13 Basketball Bundesliga were decisive for qualifying for this competition . An innovation was introduced that the Bundesliga first round games of the Final Four host should not count towards qualification, which is why a separate cup table was introduced in which these games were not taken into account. In addition to the automatically qualified host, the six best-placed teams in this cup table were also qualified. The pairings were determined by lottery, which also decided on the home right in the qualifying round. The winner or advancement in the competition was determined in the knockout system within a regular basketball game.

The winner of the competition was automatically qualified for the BEKO BBL Champions Cup at the beginning of the Basketball Bundesliga 2013/14 .

Event

While host ALBA Berlin, defending champion and double winner of the previous year brose baskets and EWE Baskets Oldenburg had so far participated in all three events, alongside ratiopharm ulm and the Artland Dragons, FC Bayern Munich and TBB Trier were able to qualify for this competition for the first time. In the qualifying round for the Top Four weekend from March 23 to 24, 2013 at O 2 World Berlin , defending champion brose baskets lost at home to Bayern Munich, which is why there will be a new title winner in this competition for the first time.
