Heiko Schaffartzik (born January 3, 1984 in Berlin ) is a German basketball player .

Career

society

Schaffartzik began his basketball career in Berlin as a youth at TuS Lichterfelde and later with cooperation partner Alba Berlin . In 2003 he was able to become both German champions and German cup winners with Alba , but as a double licensed player he only made eight short appearances during the entire season.

For the 2004/05 season Schaffartzik moved to league competitor Gießen 46ers , where he matured for the first time as a rotation player in a Bundesliga team alongside the newly signed Anton Gavel . With around 18 minutes playing time and seven points per game, he made his sporting breakthrough at Mittelhessen. After the end of the season, however, he was found on a doping control of marijuana use . The sample came from June 10, three days after the last game of the Gießen 46ers in the playoffs against Bamberg. The basketball Bundesliga then banned him for four games, and his club from Gießen at the time terminated his contract immediately.

In the 2005/06 season Schaffartzik played at the newly promoted Sellbytel Baskets Nuremberg . The following season Schaffartzik went on a basket hunt for EWE Baskets Oldenburg . In the 2007/08 season Schaffartzik played for EnBW Ludwigsburg and in January 2008 took part in the BBL All-Star Game for the South team, where he scored nine points. After the season he moved to the LTi Gießen 46ers .

After the successful EM summer of 2009 for him, Schaffartzik played for the New York Phantoms from Braunschweig in the 2009/10 season . This season he achieved an average of 10.9 points and established himself as the best German development player. He also took part in the All-Star Game again and was in the starting five of the North team. The following season he moved to Turk Telekomspor in Turkey . However, he returned to Germany in the middle of the season and signed in his hometown of Berlin.

Schaffartzik played for Alba Berlin from January 2011 to May 2013 . With Alba he was able to reach the championship finals in 2011, but Alba was defeated by the Brose Baskets . The following season they were eliminated from the playoffs early on .

From 2013 to 2015 he played for Bayern Munich , with whom he became German champions in the 2013/14 season . In the final series against his former club Alba Berlin, Schaffartzik made a decisive contribution to winning the championship with an average of 11.5 points. In the following season, they lost to the Brose Baskets Bamberg in the championship final and became runner-up. In the summer of 2015, Schaffartzik turned down a contract extension because he did not agree with the role offered and less playing time.

At the end of September 2015 it was announced that Schaffartzik was moving to France for the French champions Limoges CSP for the 2015/16 season. In December 2015, he made non-sporting headlines in France when, after a defeat by Limoges against Antibes, he got drunk on the floor of his apartment building and went to sleep in the apartment of a couple who had not locked the front door. The next morning, the tenants discovered Schaffartzik sleeping on their sofa and called the police. Schaffartzik publicly apologized and wrote on his club's website that he had made a big mistake. At the end of December 2015 he took part in the All-Star Game of LNB Pro A and won the three-way competition. He played 34 season games for Limoges and scored an average of 7.4 points per use. With 64 three-point throws hit, he was the best player on his team in this category.

For the 2016/17 season he moved within the league to Nanterre 92 . As part of the French all-star game at the end of December 2016, he won the three-way competition, as in the previous year. With Nanterre, Schaffartzik won the French cup competition and the FIBA Europe Cup 2016/17 this season and acted as team captain. In 33 ProA games, he scored an average of 10.2 points, gave 3.9 assists and collected 1.8 rebounds. He hit 78 three-point throws (in 207 attempts) and was Nanterre's best long-range shooter. In order to persuade Schaffartzik to stay at the club, fans set up a Facebook page for this purpose. In December 2017, he won the three-way competition in the French All-Star game for the third time in a row.

During the summer break of 2018, Schaffartzik left France for the Spanish first division club Basket Saragossa 2002 . However, the agreement was dissolved again in August 2018 because the German sustained a knee injury. In mid-September 2019 he was signed by the Bundesliga newcomer Hamburg Towers .

National team

The then national coach Dirk Bauermann initially appointed Schaffartzik to the German national team for the international matches on August 7th and 8th, 2009 . In his debut on August 7, 2009 against the Netherlands , he scored 13 points straight away. He then made the leap into the squad for the 2009 European Championships in Poland and was the best German thrower with 12.7 points per game. Schaffartzik was particularly noticeable for his accuracy in the European Championship matches against Greece (23 points) and Croatia (18 points), both of which he completed with a hundred percent hit rate.

With the national team, Schaffartzik took part in the 2010 World Cup , the 2011 European Championship and the 2013 European Championship . He played his 100th international match at the 4-nation tournament in Trento, Italy, on July 30, 2015.

At the European Championship 2015 , whose preliminary round u. a. was held in Schaffartzik's birthplace Berlin, the meanwhile without a club Schaffartzik was also in the squad of the German national team. However, Germany was eliminated in the preliminary round in front of their own audience.

Personal

At the age of 13 Schaffartzik fell ill with leukemia and had to take a break from basketball for some time.

His younger brother Kevin played basketball in the 2. Bundesliga ProA in Leipzig and Jena as well as in the junior national team. His father Walter played for DBV Charlottenburg in the Bundesliga and later became the medical director of the Berlin Accident Hospital.

On December 3, 2011, he joined Wetten, dass ..? and lost the bet against the candidate, the German national golf player Ann-Kathrin Lindner .
