Jeunesse sportive des Fontenelles de Nanterre ( abbreviation : JSF Nanterre ) is a French basketball club from Nanterre on the outskirts of Paris in Île-de-France . He has been in the country's top division, Ligue Nationale de Basket Pro A , since 2011 , and won the French championship in 2013 .

Club history

The club was founded in 1927 and has been doing competitive sports with the men's team since 1987. The team was coached that year by Pascal Donnadieu , son of club president Jean Donnadieu . From 1989 to 2004 the club rose ten times without ever having to play relegation games or changing the basic management: Jean Donnadieu as president and Pascal Donnadieu as coach have always been in office since then. These efforts finally led to promotion to the second division Pro B of the Ligue Nationale de Basket (LNB) in 2004 . After reaching the finals in the “Coupe de France” cup competition in 2007 and the semi-finals in 2008 and 2010, they were promoted to the top division Pro A in 2011.

Since 2007, with the support of the municipality of Nanterre , the club has been offering a training center (competitive sport and schooling) in Île-de-France .

Pro A, championship and winning the EuroChallenge

In his first season in the Pro A, the promoted player achieved 14 wins in 30 games and reached an eleventh place in the final table. In the second season they reached the cup final again, which was lost against local rivals Paris-Levallois Basket in the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy by three points. In the championship, with one victory, a balanced season balance was achieved; In a direct comparison with three other teams, they had the second-best record and thus reached eighth place in the final table and the last qualifying place for the play-off final round.

If the qualification for the play-offs was already a success in view of the second-lowest club budget in the league, this could be increased in the further course, as Nanterre in the first round the main round first BCM Gravelines and in the semi-finals the defending champion Élan Sportif Chalonnais in each case smoothly defeated two games. Thus one moved into the final against the main round second Strasbourg IG . Here Nanterre suffered the first setback in the play-offs in the opening game through a clear 55:89 defeat in Strasbourg. After winning the second game in Strasbourg, they moved to the Stade Pierre de Coubertin in Paris, as their own hall is too small and not suitable for television broadcasts. In the home ground of the league competitor Paris-Levallois, they won the next two finals and completely surprisingly secured the French championship title in their first play-off participation.

Thanks to this success, the club will start in the ULEB Euroleague in the 2013/14 season . In this, Nanterre achieved a sensation on the 3rd match day when a 71-67 victory was retracted away at FC Barcelona , which was also the first victory in the current competition. Ultimately, Nanterre was eliminated in the preliminary round, then it was enough at least for the round of 16 in the ULEB Eurocup . In addition, they won the French Cup competition for the first time in 2014 .

In the 2014/15 season , JSF won the third most important European basketball cup, the EuroChallenge, with a 64:63 victory in the final against Trabzonspor .
