Malick Badiane (born January 1, 1984 in Thiès ) is a former Senegalese basketball player . He initially played as a young talent in Germany and was selected in the NBA Draft 2003 by the Houston Rockets in 44th place. However, it was not enough for an NBA career, instead he became German champion in 2004 with the Skyliners from Frankfurt . With the Senegalese national team , he was a participant in the 2006 World Basketball Championship . He later continued his career, particularly in France , where he primarily for clubs from the French second division LNB Pro B played.

career

In his youth, Badiane first played for US Rail in Senegal and, at the age of 18, moved to the German second division TV Langen in 2002 . After being selected in the NBA draft, he was used in cooperation partner Opel Skyliners in the first basketball league from 2003 and, in addition to reaching the cup final, won the German championship title in the first season of 2004. In the following season it was enough for the defending champion in 2005 to be runner-up behind GHP Bamberg , which successfully took revenge for the defeat in the final one season earlier. However, his development at Frankfurt progressed more slowly than hoped, so that his chances of an actual commitment by a club from the NBA were dashed. As vice-African champion in 2005, Badiane qualified with Senegal for the 2006 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the first round without a win. After the 2006 World Cup he moved to the Artland Dragons , league competitor of the Skyliners. At Lower Saxony, his shares were even lower than before, even if the Lower Saxony reached the play-off final for the championship for the first time in addition to the cup final , which, from Badiane's point of view, was again lost to Bamberg.

In 2007 he moved to the French first division in Dijon , where he only played five games and continued the season in the second division in Saint-Vallier . In the 2008/09 season he was briefly under contract in China before playing the season in the NBA Development League in Anaheim, California to the end. For the 2009/10 season he moved to the second French league after Nanterre , before he was active in the following season for the league competitor from Boulazac in the Dordogne department . After another year in the Pro B with the former champions Olympique from Antibes and in Nantes , Badiane switched to the Pro B returnees and former first division club in Saint-Quentin for the 2012/13 season .

This was followed by further positions in France: At Union Basket Chartres Metropole in the third division (Nationale masculine 1), then in 2016 he made it up from the fifth to the fourth division with Fougeres Basket. Badiane participated with Senegal's national team in the 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011 African Championships. In June 2020 he announced the end of his competitive sports career.
