Zach Scott Morley (born April 25, 1983 in Maryville , Missouri ) is an American basketball player . Morley played after his studies first years in the second Spanish Liga Española de Baloncesto before leaving for two years in the Ukraine in 2012-13 Basketball Bundesliga played for ALBA Berlin, with whom he the BBL Cup 2013 won. After injury problems at the beginning of the 2013/14 season, he got a new contract at the end of 2013 with French first division club Chorale Roanne in the Ligue Nationale de Basket .

Career

Born in northern Missouri, Morley moved to Indian Hills Community College in 2001 to study across the state line in Iowa . Their basketball team Warriors was one of the most successful teams in the National Junior College Athletic Association in the 1990s, winning three titles in a row. During Morley's time until 2003 you could not follow up on these successes, but Morley himself was able to continue his studies at the University of Wisconsin , whose college team Badgers are among the most prestigious teams in the most important college league NCAA . The Badgers won the 2004 Big Ten Conference final tournament with Morley . After a second round defeat in 2004 they reached the second round in the 2005 national finals, Sweet Sixteen , which was lost to the eventual title winner UNC Tar Heels.

After finishing his studies in 2005, Morley did not get a contract in a major professional league, but still tried his hand at a professional and began his professional career in the third Spanish league LEB-2 with the basketball club from the coastal city of Gandía in the Valencia region . With his team he rose straight away in 2006 in the second division. In 2007 he moved to league rivals and former first division club Breogán from Lugo in Galicia . With this he won 2008 with the "Copa del Príncipe" a national cup competition, which is played without the Spanish first division. In the championship they were eliminated in the play-offs for the remaining promotion place in the first division in the semi-finals against the eventual play-off winner Bruesa GBC . He then returned to Gandía for one season, which, however, withdrew from the second division in 2009. For the following season 2009/10 he got a contract with league rivals from Burgos . With this he even moved into the final series for promotion to the first division this time, which was lost to ViveMenorca . After Morley had already been awarded as MVP of the match day the previous season , this award was again awarded to him on match day 13; In addition, at the end of the season he was in the "Top Five" of all LEB Oro players in the points per game and effectiveness categories .

Morley left Spain for the 2010/11 season and moved to Ukraine, where he won another national championship with the traditional club Budiwelnik from Kiev in 2011 after a 14-year break. This title could not be defended in the Basketball Superliga Ukraine the following year and instead retired without a win in the play-off semifinals against former champions BK Azovmasch Mariupol , who in turn remained without a win in the final series against the new champions BK Donetsk . Donetsk coach Saša Obradović was then signed by the German club Alba Berlin and was able to convince his new club to sign Morley in addition to Vule Avdalović . The German first division team received a wild card for the highest European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2012/13 , in which he reached the round of the best 16 teams. After winning the Beko BBL-Pokal cup competition in 2013 , however, they were eliminated as fifth in the main round in the first play-off round. For the 2013/14 season, Morley moved to league competitor medi from Bayreuth . However, the contract with him was terminated shortly after the start of training for the 2013/14 season due to an injury. Morley had to recover from his injury and only got a new contract in the French LNB Pro A with Chorale Basket from Roanne at the end of 2013 . After Chorale Roanne was relegated from the first division, his new contract with the Spanish club Bàsquet Manresa was canceled before the start of the 2014/15 season after the medical examination, just like a year earlier in Bayreuth.
