Club Baloncesto Atapuerca (abbreviated CB Atapuerca , operates as Autocid Ford Burgos ) is a Spanish basketball club from Burgos , whose professional team played until 2013 and as CB Tizona 2015 in Spanish national leagues.

history

The club was founded in 1997 as Club Deportivo Maristas de Burgos . He started in the fifth Spanish basketball league and rose twice in the first two seasons. The 1999/00 season therefore played the club in the third highest division, the EBA league . From this, however, you got off again directly. After an unsuccessful attempt in 2002, they were promoted to League 3 again. At the beginning of the promotion season, the club renamed itself to CB Atapuerca . Normally the club would have been relegated to the fourth division again, as he was only 14th and lost the playdowns to AB Castelló . Due to the renouncement of the start in the Liga EBA of CB Montcada and the reserve of FC Barcelona , one was allowed to stay in the league.

From the 2003/04 season, the car manufacturer Ford began to support the club financially. At that time, and still today, the club is known as Autocid Ford Burgas . The new financial opportunities were reflected in significantly better performance. Atapuerca was third in the main round, only failed in the semi-finals of the play-offs for promotion to the second division. The following year they finished first in the regular season, but failed again in the semi-finals. The club finished the 2005/06 season again first. This time they made it to the second division, the Liga Española de Baloncesto (LEB). In the final Gandía BA was defeated with 89:82.

In the first second division season, they barely escaped relegation as fifteenth in the table. The following year the team finished eleventh and missed the play-offs by two wins. In the 2008/09 season Atapuerca was ninth, reaching the play-offs for promotion to Spain's first basketball league, the ACB league . In the quarter-finals they lost the series of three against CB Lucentum Alicante with 1: 2. The next season, the promotion was just missed. After finishing fifth in the main round, Burgas advanced to the final, where they already led 2-1 against Menorca Bàsquet . The match point in game four could not be used and the club also lost the play-off. In 2011 the final was reached again. Again the team had to admit defeat. Xacobeo Blu: Sens won the series 3-1. In the 2011/12 season, the club made the third attempt to move up to the first division. They finished second in the preliminary round, but the team was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

In the 2012/13 season, the club makes the fourth attempt at promotion. The first half of the season was completed so that you could play for the Copa Príncipe de Asturias , the Spanish Cup for second division teams. After losing this league cup final last year with 85:93 against the later promoted CB 1939 Canarias , this time they won 73:67 against River Andorra and thus secured the first major title in the club's history. Then you reached the first table of the regular season thanks to the direct comparison won against Andorra and the direct promotion right to the top division ACB league . But the economic requirements of the ACB League were too high, so that Atapuerca was refused the license for the ACB and the right of promotion was initially forfeited again.

Then the professional team was separated from the main club and settled under the roof of the CB Tizona . Under this name, a team in Burgos already existed in the 1970s and 1980s, which was then the leading in the city. The CB Tizona took over the sponsor and sponsor name Autocid Ford Burgos with the professional team. As second in the main round behind Andorra you won the play-offs for the remaining promotion spot and the athletic promotion right to the ACB. Another time Ford Burgos was denied the license for the ACB. The same was repeated in the 2014/15 season, when Tizona Ford Burgos was the first in the table to gain direct promotion rights. After the CB Tizona finally withdrew its team in 2015, the CD Miraflores replaced its professional team in the LEB Oro as San Pablo Burgos and was able to achieve not only the right of promotion but also the license for the ACB two years later in 2017 and thus also realize the promotion .
