The CB 1939 Canarias , also known under the sponsor name Iberostar Tenerife , is a Spanish basketball club from San Cristóbal de La Laguna on Tenerife .

history

In 1939, the club CB Canarias was founded , which played continuously in the second Spanish basketball league between 1951 and 1981 and failed in the Korać Cup in the first round at SSV Hagen in 1977 . After 30 years, the club made it to the first division in the 1980/81 season, the then 1ª División (now ACB League ). Various descents and ascents followed. You could establish yourself between 1986 and 1991, where you were permanently represented in the first division. The 1990/91 season ended the team in 24th, which was associated with relegation.

After the 1993/94 season, some of the club's members decided, due to serious financial problems, to merge the team with other basketball teams from the region. Other members did not agree and founded a new association, which they called CB 1939 Canarias . From then on, he played with the logo and colors of the dissolved predecessor club.

Due to the re-establishment, the team had to start in the fourth class 2ª Division . It took her four years there to pave the way to the third division. After a few setbacks that led to relegation again, the club made it to the second division in the 2006/07 season. The 2007/08 season was the first in the second-highest class since the company was founded. In the Liga Española de Baloncesto , the promoted player played a good role right away, making it to the quarterfinals of the play-offs. In the following years, the team continued to perform well, which led to promotion to the ACB league in 2012. The team did not need to play any play-offs, as they finished the main round in first place, which entitles them to direct promotion.

For the 2016/17 season , the club won the first edition of the Basketball Champions League organized by FIBA .
