The Obradoiro Clube de Amigos do Baloncesto ( German  Obradoiro Club of the Friends of Basketball ), also known under the sponsor name Monbus Obradoiro , is a Spanish basketball club from the Galician capital Santiago de Compostela . The first team plays in the Spanish ACB league . The home games are played in the Pavillón Multiusos Fontes do Sar with a capacity of 5,065 .

history

Obradoiro CAB was launched on October 6, 1970 and began in the third division in the 1970/71 season. After several years between the third and the second division, he was promoted to the Primera Division for the first time in 1981/82 . In the following year, however, the team achieved only two wins and finished the league in 14th and last place.

In the 1989/90 season Obradoiro CAB qualified for the promotion play-off, but failed there at Juver Murcia . This encounter should have legal consequences, because the team from Murcia used the Argentine Esteban Pérez with a forged ID as a Spaniard. The sporting authorities decided against the Galicians and so Juver Murcia rose to the ACB league . While the first team of Obradoiro CAB was relegated to the regional league, the club fought in court for admission to the ACB league. The case went to the Supreme Court, which in the summer of 2003 gave Obradoiro right, but the league association now demanded the entry fee of around 3 million euros in order to be allowed to participate in the top division. Again Obradoiro took legal action to only have to pay the amount of around 600,000 euros prescribed in 1990. On November 27, 2007, the club got right here and on June 15, 2009, 19 years after the polemical play-off, Obradoiro, who at that time only played in the regional league, was enrolled in the ACB league.

The first season the club finished 17th and penultimate place and consequently relegated to the LEB Oro . In the 2010/11 season, Obradoiro took second place in the regular season, in the promotion play-off they prevailed 3-1 in the final against Ford Burgos and thus achieved promotion to the ACB league.

In the 2012/13 season, the Galicians reached eighth place in the regular season and thus qualified for the play-off for the championship for the first time in the club's history. In the quarter-finals, the team failed 2-0 at eventual champions Real Madrid .
