Salah Mejri (born June 15, 1986 in Jendouba , Arabic صالح الماجري) is a Tunisian basketball player . He plays on the position of the center .

career

Club career

Salah Mejri only started playing basketball at the age of 18. His first station as a professional was Étoile Sportive du Sahel , where he was able to win the Tunisian championship in both the 2006/07 and 2008/09 seasons. In 2010 the center moved to the Belgian Ethias League for the Antwerp Giants . With these he reached the final of the national cup in 2012, but lost to Okapi Aalstar 89:96. In the summer of 2012, the Spanish first division club Blusens signed Monbus Mejri. In Spain, his team surprisingly moved into the playoff for the championship as eighth in the main round. Mejri convinced with 9.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.6 shot blocks per game and was honored as the discovery of the season at the end of the season . Real Madrid signed the Tunisian center in the summer of 2013 . In his two years at Real, he averaged 5.37 (2013/14) and 4.32 (2014/15) points in the Spanish league.

Mejri signed a three-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks on July 29, 2015 . He was the first Tunisian player in NBA history. In his final season for Dallas in 2018/19, he averaged 3.9 points per game in 36 games and hit 3.6 rebounds. Also worth mentioning are eleven three-point litters that Mejri was able to use this season.

National team

Salah Mejri won the Arab Nations Cup with the Tunisian national team in 2009 by beating Egypt 70:50 . In the same year he won the bronze medal with his country at the African Basketball Championship . At the Basketball World Cup 2010 he was again part of the final squad, but finished 24th and last with Tunisia. In 2011 he led his country selection to their first victory at the African Cup. In the final, Tunisia surprisingly prevailed against Angola with 67:56 and Mejri was voted MVP of the tournament for his strong individual performances . Winning the title also qualified his country for the first time to participate in the 2012 Olympic Games in London . There Tunisia landed in 11th place, Mejri himself averaged 10.4 points and 10 rebounds per game and led the tournament statistics with 3.4 shot blocks . In 2013 he reached the bronze medal with Tunisia at the Mediterranean Games and finished ninth at the African Championship.
