Daniel "Dani" Díez de la Faya (born April 7, 1993 in Madrid ) is a Spanish basketball player . He plays in the position of the small forward .

career

Daniel Díez began his junior career in 2005 with CB Estudiantes . In the summer of 2009, the then 16-year-old moved to Real Madrid's youth academy . There he went through various junior teams before he was taken over in the first squad in the 2011/12 season, but at the same time played with the B-team in the EBA, the fourth Spanish division. On December 18, 2011 he made his debut in the first division in a league match against Assignia Manresa . In the summer of 2012 he switched to the first division club Lagun Aro GBC on loan for a year to gain match practice. He returned to Real Madrid for the 2013/14 season. In the capital city he won the Supercup and the national cup , in the Euroleague he failed with his team only in the final. For the 2014/15 season he was loaned to Lagun Aro GBC again. Díez was selected in the 2015 NBA draft in 54th position by the Utah Jazz . However, his draft rights were transferred to the Portland Trail Blazers shortly thereafter .

National team

Daniel Díez won the 2009 European Championship with Spain's U-16 national team. A year later he was part of the squad for the U-17 World Cup in Hamburg , but only finished 10th with his country. In the summer of 2011 he won the gold medal with Spain at the U-18 European Championship in Wroclaw , averaged 12.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game and was elected to the All-Tournament Team. At the U-20 European Championship in 2012 he achieved the bronze medal with his country and was again selected for his individual performance (14.3 points; 5.8 rebounds) in the team of the tournament. A year later, he played the U-20 European Championship for the second time. The Spaniards finished the tournament again in third place, Dani Díez was the tournament's top scorer with 18.7 points per game and was again elected to the All-Tournament Team.

On August 12, 2014, Dani Díez made his senior national team debut in a friendly against Turkey .
