Venard Richard Hendrix (born November 15, 1986 ) is an American basketball player who also has Macedonian citizenship. He plays for Lokomotive Kuban in the Eastern European VTB United League on loan.
Career
High school
Hendrix attended Athens High School in Athens, Alabama, where he was trained by his father, Venard Hendrix. He was named Alabama Mr. Basketball of the Year 2005. Hendrix scored 2,915 points in his career and currently holds Alabama High School State Records for rebounds (1,820) and blocks (667).
college
After a successful high school career, Hendrix chose the University of Alabama and played for the Crimson Tide. He waived his senior year at college and opted for the 2008 NBA draft.
United States
Hendrix was drafted 49th by the Golden State Warriors . Hendrix made the pre-season with, but did not make the final squad. In November he joined the Warriors' farm team, the Bakersfield Jam in the D-League . After the Warriors released him, Hendrix moved to league rivals Dakota Wizards in December 2008 . He collected the most rebounds in the D-League in the 2008/2009 season and took part in the 2009 NBDL All-Star Game.
Europe
In July 2009 Hendrix signed a one-year contract with the CB Granada in the Spanish ACB league . He received the ACB Rising Star Award 2010 for best newcomer in the Spanish league. After a season in Spain, Hendrix moved to Maccabi Tel Aviv, who took part in the Euroleague . With Maccabi he was Israeli double winner in 2011 and 2012, as well as winner of the Adriatic League in 2012. In June 2012 Hendrix signed a two-year contract with the Italian team Olimpia Milano . After the Milanese were eliminated early in the Euroleague, Hendrix was loaned to the Russian team Lokomotive Kuban in January 2013 . He won the 2013 Eurocup with Lokomotive and was voted MVP in the final.
