The Egyptian men's national basketball team represents Egypt at international basketball matches. It is one of the first national teams from the African continent to take part in FIBA international competitions . After she first took part in the European basketball championships and won the title there after winning the bronze medal in 1947 as host of the European Championship finals in 1949 in the absence of the leading Eastern European nations, she was also a participant in the first world championship in 1950 , in which she reached fifth place and best non- American team. At the following Olympic Games in 1952 , she reached a ninth place. At the African Championships she has won the title five times so far, most recently in 1983. At the continental finals in 2013 , she won a silver medal and qualified for a World Cup finals for the first time after 20 years of abstinence, which was held in Spain in 2014 .
