The Mozambican national basketball team for men represents Mozambique at international basketball matches. Shortly after the Mozambican federation joined the FIBA world federation in 1978, the men's selection in 1981 qualified for the final round of the African Basketball Championship . While the Angolan selection of the former Portuguese “sister colony” in southern Africa then became the dominant force on the African continent, the Mozambican selection after a fifth place in 1983 from 1985 onwards could no longer qualify for a continental finals for ten years. Since 1995, however, they have been a regular participant in the African finals again, without placing themselves in the front of the field in contrast to the women's selection or even qualifying for a global finals.
