The Rivière du Sud ( French for "River of the South") is a right tributary of the Saint Lawrence River in the Chaudière-Appalaches administrative region of the Canadian province of Québec .
The Rivière du Sud rises at Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire 25 km southeast of Montmagny in the mountainous interior of the historical region of Côte-du-Sud . Initially, the river flows to the southwest. At Armagh it turns north-west and at Saint-Raphaël it turns north-east. In the lower reaches it runs parallel to the estuary of the St. Lawrence River. At Montmagny it finally flows into this. The Rivière du Sud has a length of 77 km. Its catchment area covers 1927 km². The mean discharge is 46 m³ / s.
Hydropower plants
There are three smaller hydropower plants along the river (near Arthurville, Saint-Raphaël and Montmagny).
The Montmagny run-of-river power plant ( ⊙ ) has 5 Kaplan turbines with a total output of 2.1 MW. The fall height is 9 m. The plant was put into operation on May 23, 1996.
