Montmagny is a city ( ville ) and capital of the Canadian MRC Montmagny of the same name in the Canadian province of Québec .
The city is located about 80 km east of the provincial capital Québec on the south bank of the estuary of the Saint Lawrence River at the mouth of the Rivière du Sud . In 2006 it had a total of 11,353 inhabitants and covers an area of 126.07 km².
history
Montmagny was founded in 1646 by Charles Jacques Huault de Montmagny. In 1883 Montmagny received city rights.

The Trans-Canada Highway runs from Québec to Montmagny. The further north running Autoroute 20 leads to Rimouski . Montmagny is connected to the rail network of VIA Rail Canada . There is also a ferry operated by the Société des traversiers du Québec to L'Isle-aux-Grues .
Attractions
The Saint-Thomas Catholic Church in the town center was built between 1855 and 1856.
