The Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) is a transport company of the government of the Canadian province of Québec . It operates various ferry connections on the Saint Lawrence River and on the Rivière Saguenay . The company, which was founded in 1971, currently offers nine ferry connections. In the 2012/13 fiscal year it had 588 employees and owned 18 ships; these carried 5.43 million passengers and 2.78 million vehicles. Various subcontractors offer additional ferry connections on behalf of STQ.
