The Federação Moambicana de Basquetebol ( FMB for short ) is the national umbrella organization for basketball in Mozambique . He resides in Avenida Zedequias Manganhela number 381, in the capital Maputo .

history

The association was founded after the independence of the former Portuguese colony Mozambique in 1975. The world association FIBA took on the Mozambican association in 1978.

activities

The FMB sends the national teams of Mozambique to international competitions. So far, the Mozambican national basketball team for men has neither qualified for the Olympic Games nor for World Championships .

Mozambique was able to qualify often for the African Championships. Fifth place in 1983 can be considered the best result of an FMB men's selection. The women's selection has always been more successful and has already achieved several second places (1986, 2003, 2013) and third places (1990, 1993, 2005).

The FMB participates in the team competition Supertaça Luso-Angolana and also organizes the participation of Mozambique's selections in the Jogos da Lusofonia , the games of the Portuguese-speaking world .

The FMB has already organized various international tournaments for Mozambique, including the women's African basketball championship in 1986 and the women's African basketball championship in 2003 .
