The AfroBasket 2007 ( shortly : Afrobasket 2007 ) is the 24th edition of this tournament was held in from 15 to 25 August 2007 Angola instead. After the opening match between Rwanda and the hosts and defending champions Angola in the capital Luanda , the preliminary round matches were played in Benguela , Lubango , Huambo and Cabinda . The placement rounds for places 9 to 16 then took place in Benguela and the final rounds for places 1 to 8 in Luanda. The winner of the tournament qualified directly for the basketball tournament at the 2008 Olympic Games , while the other two medal winners were given a place at the pre-Olympic qualifying tournament to qualify for the Olympic basketball tournament.
Host Angola won their fifth straight title without defeat. In addition to finalist Cameroon , Cape Verde surprisingly won a medal. However, these two teams lost their two group games at the pre-Olympic qualifying tournament in Athens a year later and did not get a starting place for the tournament at the 2008 Olympic Games.

At the tournament, a preliminary round in four groups of four teams each was held as a round-robin tournament. While the two worst teams in each group then played out places nine to 16 in a placement round, the two best-placed teams in each group reached the final round, each of which was played in a knockout system . The losers of the games of the quarterfinals played from places five to eight in a placement round, while the losers of the games of the semifinals in the "small final" not only played for the bronze medal in this tournament, but also for the remaining starting place for the pre-Olympic qualification tournament. The winner of the final not only won the gold medal, but also a direct starting place for the Olympic basketball tournament, while the loser still had the opportunity to qualify via the pre-Olympic tournament.
