The African Basketball Championship for women in 1990 , the eleventh African Basketball Championship for women , took place between March 16 and 25, 1990 in the Tunisian capital Tunis , which hosted the championship for the second time. The winner was the Senegal national team , which won the title for the sixth time. In the final, Zaire was narrowly beaten.

In the preliminary round there were two groups (group A and group B) of four teams each. Each team played against each other of the respective group exactly once, so that each team played three games (a total of 12 games were played). There were two points for each win and one point for a defeat. The two teams with the highest points moved into the semi-finals. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison decided . The third placed played for fifth place and the fourth placed for seventh place.
