The 1994 African Basketball Championship , the thirteenth women's African Basketball Championship , took place between December 10 and 17, 1994 in Johannesburg , South Africa , which hosted the championship for the first time. The winner was the Zaires national team , which won the title for the third time. Senegal could be defeated in the final . For the first time a team from Zimbabwe took part in the tournament.

In the preliminary round there were two groups (group A and group B) of four teams each. Each team played against each other of the respective group exactly once, so that each team played three games (a total of 12 games were played). There were two points for each win and one point for a defeat. The two teams with the highest points in each group advanced to the semi-finals. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison decided . The third placed played for fifth place and the fourth placed for seventh place.
