The Senegalese national basketball team for women is the selection of Senegalese women basketball players that the Fédération Sénégalaise de Basket-Ball represents on an international level, for example in friendly matches against the teams of other national associations, but also in international competitions. With ten titles at the African Championships between 1974 and 2009, one participation in the 2000 Olympic basketball competitions and seven participation in world championships , the national team is the most successful on the African continent. In 1962, the national association joined the world association Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA). In June 2014, the team was in 20th place in the world rankings for women , two places behind the best-placed African team from Mali .

The team has qualified for a world championship seven times so far . The best result is 12th place at the 1979 World Cup . After finishing third at the 2013 African Cup of Nations, Senegal was unable to qualify for the upcoming 2014 World Cup for the first time in 20 years .

Senegal at the Olympic Games

So far, the team has managed to qualify for the Olympic basketball competitions once . By winning the African Championship in 1997, the national team took part in the 2000 Olympic basketball tournament in Sydney , where they finished last among twelve participating teams.

The team can show 20 times at the African Championship in a total of 21 events . The national team was able to win the title ten times, including four times in a row between 1974 and 1981, six silver medals and three bronze medals. The worst placement was fourth (and last) place at the first African Cup in 1966.
