The Nigerian national basketball team for women is the selection of Nigerian women basketball players that the Nigeria Basketball Federation represents on an international level, for example in friendly matches against the teams of other national associations, but also in international competitions. The greatest successes were winning the African Championships in 2003 and 2005, as well as participating in the 2004 Summer Olympics and the 2006 World Cup . In 1964, the national association joined the world association Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA). In June 2014, the team was ranked 32nd in the world rankings for women .
International competitions
Nigeria at world championships
The team was able to qualify for the 2006 World Cup by winning the African Championship in 2005 , where they finished last among 16 teams.
Nigeria at the Olympic Games
So far, the team has once managed to qualify for the Olympic basketball competitions by winning the 2003 African Championship . At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens , the team finished eleventh among twelve participants before South Korea came in eleventh.
Nigeria at African Championships
The team can boast nine appearances in the African Championship so far . The national team was able to win the competition twice and took third place once.
Nigeria at the Africa Games
The women's national basketball team of Nigeria won the title at the African Games competitions in 2003 , the silver medal in 2007 and bronze medal in 1978 , 1999 and 2011 . In addition, the national team took fourth place in the 1995 competitions and sixth place in 1987 .
