The DR Congo women's national basketball team is the selection of basketball players of the Democratic Republic of Congo , which the Basketball Federation of Democratic Republic of Congo represents at international level, for example in friendly matches against the national teams of other national associations, but also in international competitions. The greatest successes were winning the African Championships in 1983, 1986 and 1994 as well as participating in the 1996 Summer Olympics and the 1983, 1990 and 1998 World Championships . This makes the team behind Senegal the most successful on the African continent. In 1963, the national association joined the world association Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA). In June 2014, the team was ranked 83rd as the best African women's basketball team in the women's world rankings .

International competitions

The team was able to qualify for the world championship three times . At the first participation in 1983 they finished last among 14 participants, in 1990 the national team was able to defeat the team from Malaysia and was 15th out of 16 participants, in 1998 the team reached 16th and last place.

So far, the team has managed to qualify for the Olympic basketball competitions once by winning the African Championship in 1994 . At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta , the team finished last among twelve participants.

The national team at the African Games

The women's national basketball team of the Democratic Republic of the Congo won the Africa Games competitions in 1987 . In addition, the national team achieved the silver medal in the competitions in 1999 and 2003 and won bronze in 1991 . In 1995 the team was excluded from the tournament due to late arrival, in 2007 they finished eighth and in 2011 tenth.
