Neottiglossa pusilla is a bug from the family of stink bugs (Pentatomidae).
features
The bugs grow to be 4.5 to 6.0 millimeters long. They are pale brown in color, with paler margins on the pronotum and abdomen. A fine, pale longitudinal stripe runs centrally over the pronotum and the scutellum . The relatively short and broad head is rather flattened at the front. The third part of the antennae is about half as long as the second. The last two links are dark in color.
distribution and habitat
The species is widespread in the Palearctic and occurs from North Africa across Europe (with the exception of the far north) across Central Asia to China. The species occurs everywhere in Central Europe, but is only distributed in places and only abundant locally. It is rarer in the north than in the south. In the Alps you can find them up to over 1000 meters above sea level. Open to partially shaded grass habitats are populated. In Great Britain the species occurs locally in the south and center of England on grasslands.
Way of life
The animals are found on various sweet grasses (Poaceae), such as panicle grasses ( Poa ), although one does not know whether there are certain food plants. The species should also suckle on sedges ( Carex ), family of the sour grass plants (Cyperaceae). The adult animals of the new generation appear from August.
