The Pentatominae are a subfamily of the stink bugs (Pentatomidae) from the suborder Pentatomomorpha .

features

The scutellum of the Pentatominae usually only extends up to half of the abdomen or exceeds it only slightly. However, the label never extends to the end of the abdomen. Therefore the membrane is always visible. In contrast to the zoophagenous Asopinae , the predominantly phytophagous Pentatominae have a less powerful proboscis (rostrum).

Way of life

The representatives of the Pentatominae feed almost exclusively on phytophagus. Different species of Pentatominae cause damage to crops and are therefore considered to be agricultural pests . The subfamily is represented worldwide.

Taxonomy and systematics

The Pentatominae form the largest subfamily of the Pentatomidae with more than 3300 species, around 620 genera and 42 tribes . In Europe, the subfamily is represented with 132 species from 37 genera and 12 tribes. There are more than 160 species from approximately 40 genera and 14 tribes in the United States . In Australia the Pentatominae are represented with 321 species in 113 genera (of which 303 species and 83 genera are endemic ).

The Pentatominae include the following tribes:
