Dyroderes umbraculatus is a bug from the family of stink bugs (Pentatomidae). It also bears the English name White-shouldered Shield Bug (" white-shouldered shield bug ").
features
The bugs become 7 to 9 millimeters long. They are gray-brown to brown-red in color. They have a broad oval shape. They also have a very rounded head. The sides of the pronotum are also very rounded. The brightly colored “shoulders”, the lateral front parts of the pronotum, are characteristic of the species. The lower end of the label (scutellum) is brightly colored. The connexive (part of the abdomen visible on the side) is brightly colored with dark spots. The feelers have light and black bands. The light legs are dotted with black.
distribution
The species is distributed throughout the Mediterranean (holomediterranean) and the Black Sea region. It is rare in Central Europe. However, there is evidence from Brittany, Belgium, the Channel Islands and first sightings in the British Isles.
Way of life
The bugs can be found on various bedstraws ( Galium ) such as the burdock bedstraw ( Galium aparine ) or meadow bedstraw ( Galium mollugo ). The species overwinters as an imago.
