Brachynema cinctum is a Wanzenart from the family of stink bugs (Pentatomidae).
features
The greenish colored bugs are 8 to 11 millimeters long. They have an oval shape. The front sides of the pronotum and the connexive (part of the abdomen that is visible on the side) are yellow or reddish in color. At the front of the pronotum there is a small black spot on the side. The lower end of the label (scutellum) is rounded and colored yellow. The membrane is pink.
distribution
The species is widespread in the Mediterranean, but rare. The distribution area extends from Spain through southern France, Italy, Croatia, Greece to Cyprus. The type of bug is also found in the Canary Islands.
Way of life
Saline wetlands in the coastal region of the Mediterranean are the typical habitat of Brachynema cinctum . The bugs are often found on Strand-Sode ( Suaeda maritima ). The flight time of adult bedbugs is in late summer (August and September).
Similar species
Brachynema germarii looksvery similar to Brachynema cinctum , but becomes longer. This makes the abdomen and the label appear slimmer. The lower end of the label is also colored yellow, but much more pointed or less rounded than in Brachynema cinctum . In addition, in Brachynema germarii the black spot on the front of the pronotum is missingand the membrane is transparent.
