Chlorochroa (Rhytidolomia) juniperina is a Wanzenart from the family of stink bugs (Pentatomidae). It is one of three species in the genus Chlorochroa found in the Palearctic . The remaining 20species of Chlorochroa are native to America.
features
The approximately 11 millimeter long bugs are light green in summer and brown in color in autumn. The edges of the bug are lined with white to orange-yellow. The first two antennae segments are green, the three outer ones black. The lower end of the label (scutellum) is brightly colored.
distribution
The species is common in large parts of Europe. In the north their occurrence extends beyond the Arctic Circle, in the south to North Africa. In the British Isles, the species disappeared in 1925 when the population of its main forage plant ( juniper ) declined.
Way of life
Chlorochroa juniperina is found on junipers ( Juniperus ), on pines ( Pinus ) and in northern regions on crowberries ( Empetrum ). The bugs suck on the berries of the juniper bushes.
