Eysarcoris venustissimus is a bug from the family of stink bugs (Pentatomidae).
features
The bugs are 5.5 to 6.5 millimeters long. They are greenish gray in color. The head and the front part of the pronotum and the scutellum are copper-colored. The connexive is patterned alternately in black and white.
distribution and habitat
The species is distributed from North Africa and Europe with the exception of the north east to Siberia and the Caspian region. It is widespread in Central Europe. It is more common there in the south up to the low mountain range and only sporadically distributed in the north and mostly only documented by older finds. In the Alps you can find them up to 1200 meters above sea level. The species needs less warmth than Eysarcoris aeneus and inhabits more humid, shady areas such as hedges and forest edges. The species was rare in Britain in the 19th century, but is now widespread in the south and center, north to Yorkshire .
Way of life
The animals are found in the herb layer on the mint family (Lamiaceae). Most of Ziesten ( Stachys ), but also hollow tooth ( Galeopsis ), horehound ( Marrubium ) Taubnesseln ( Lamium ), ballota ( Ballota ) Wirbeldost ( Clinopodium ) and others. The adults appear in May. Shortly thereafter, mating begins, and later the eggs are laid. One generation is trained every year. The adult animals of the new generation appear from August.
