Reports
background
A field of participants that had remained unchanged compared to the German Grand Prix three weeks earlier also took part in the eleventh round of the World Championship in Hungary.
training
Alain Prost secured pole position in front of his Williams team- mate Damon Hill as well as Michael Schumacher , Ayrton Senna , Riccardo Patrese and Gerhard Berger . Pierluigi Martini and Jean Alesi formed the fourth row in front of the two Footwork pilots Derek Warwick and Aguri Suzuki .
run
Since Prost stalled his engine at the start of the warm-up lap, he had to start the race from last place on the grid.
Hill took the lead ahead of Senna, Berger, Patrese and Schumacher. In the tenth lap, Schumacher fell back to tenth place due to a spin. Due to an electronic defect, Senna had to give up the race after 17 laps.
Prost, who in the meantime had moved back up to fourth place, had to make a longer repair stop in the pits due to damage to his rear wing. He resumed the race seven laps behind his leading team-mate Hill.
During his second pit stop, Schumacher, who was second at the time, had to give up the race due to an engine problem. Hill achieved his first Grand Prix victory ahead of Patrese and Berger. Derek Warwick was fourth ahead of Martin Brundle and Karl Wendlinger .
