The 1993 Monaco Grand Prix took place on May 23rd and was the sixth race of the 1993 Formula 1 World Championship .

Reports

background

The same field of participants that had contested the Spanish Grand Prix two weeks earlier also took part in the sixth World Championship round of the year in Monaco.

training

Despite an accident on the Ste. Dévote curve, Ayrton Senna set the fastest time of the first training session on Thursday, which, like the first qualifying round that followed in the afternoon, took place on wet track conditions. Due to another accident in dry weather on Saturday, however, he was unable to secure pole position. Instead, Alain Prost qualified for the front row ahead of Michael Schumacher . Ayrton Senna followed in third place in front of Damon Hill , Jean Alesi and Riccardo Patrese .

run

During the first laps, the starting order of the first three remained the same. Because of a jump start, however, Prost was given a 10-second penalty, which he completed in the twelfth lap in the pits. As a result of a mistake in the subsequent acceleration, he fell back to the end of the field. At this point, Schumacher was leading by a clear margin over Senna.

On the 32nd lap, Schumacher retired due to a hydraulic defect. As a result, Senna got into the leadership position that he held until the finish line. Hill finished second ahead of Alesi. In the meantime, Prost had fought his way back to fourth place. Behind him, Christian Fittipaldi and Martin Brundle crossed the finish line in fifth and sixth respectively.
