Reports

background

The same field of participants that had contested the Canadian Grand Prix three weeks earlier also took part in the eighth World Championship round of the year in France.

Ayrton Senna , who had decided from race to race since the beginning of the season to compete again for McLaren , signed a contract for the remaining races of the season in advance of the race. In addition, his move to Williams for the 1994 season was announced.

training

Damon Hill secured the first pole position of his Formula 1 career in front of his team-mate Alain Prost . The two Ligier drivers Martin Brundle and Mark Blundell qualified for the second row ahead of Ayrton Senna and Jean Alesi . Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello formed the fourth row.

run

While Hill took the lead ahead of Prost, Brundle, Blundell and Senna, Schumacher passed Alesi. Barrichello succeeded three laps later.

While trying to lap Andrea de Cesaris , Mark Blundell collided with this and was eliminated. During the pit stop phase, the lead changed between the two Williams drivers.

During the 47th and 48th laps, both Senna and Schumacher passed Brundle. On lap 65 Schumacher overtook Senna, who was hindered by Derek Warwick during a lap maneuver .

Prost won ahead of Hill, Schumacher, Senna and Brundle. Rubens Barrichello dueled Michael Andretti for sixth place during the last few laps . In the third to last lap, Andretti ultimately won this duel.
