The 1993 Canadian Grand Prix took place in Montreal on June 13 and was the seventh race of the 1993 Formula 1 World Championship .

Reports

background

The same field of participants that had contested the Monaco Grand Prix three weeks earlier also competed in the seventh World Championship round of the year in Canada.

In the run-up to the race, there were discussions about a future ban on the traction controls and active wheel suspensions used by some teams.

training

The two Williams drivers Alain Prost and Damon Hill qualified for the front row in front of the two Benettons of Michael Schumacher and Riccardo Patrese and the two Ferraris of Gerhard Berger and Jean Alesi . Martin Brundle followed in seventh place ahead of Ayrton Senna .

run

Hill got past the lead due to a better start than his teammate Prost. Already on the first lap, Senna overtook Brundle and Schumacher as well as Patrese and Alesi. He passed his team-mate Berger on the second lap and was thus in third place behind the two Williams drivers.

In the sixth lap, Prost took the lead. Hill initially successfully defended himself against Senna. Schumacher followed behind this.

Due to problems with the pit stop, Hill dropped to fourth place on lap 30. Patrese spun out on lap 44. Seven laps before the end of the race, Senna had to retire due to a technical defect.

Prost won ahead of Schumacher, Hill, Berger and Brundle. Karl Wendlinger received the last World Championship point of the day in sixth place.
