The 1950 Monaco Grand Prix took place on May 21 at the Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo and was the second race of the 1950 World Automobile Championship .
Race course
The Argentinian Juan Manuel Fangio , who had started from pole position, took the lead immediately after the start , followed by Giuseppe Farina , Luigi Fagioli and José Froilán González . On the first lap of the race there was a pile-up after the tunnel, in which a total of ten vehicles were involved. The road had suddenly got wet due to the waves lapping over, so that Farina turned and many of the following drivers could no longer evade. Everyone involved got away with minor injuries, but had to give up the race. This left eight vehicles in the race, which was led by Fangio. After just a quarter of the distance, he had extended his lead over the remaining drivers to over a lap. Behind them there was an exciting battle for second place between Ferrari team-mates Luigi Villoresi and Alberto Ascari for a long time , but Villoresi dropped out prematurely due to a technical defect.
