training
In the first free practice, Hamilton achieved the fastest lap ahead of Vettel and Alonso. This training took over Bruno Senna the Renault of Nick Heidfeld and Nico Hulkenberg the Force India of Adrian Sutil . In the second free practice session, Hamilton kept the lead from Alonso and Button. In the third free practice session, Vettel was the fastest driver ahead of Alonso and Button.
Qualifying
Alonso posted the fastest lap in the first section of qualifying. The Virgin , HRT and Lotus pilots and Sébastien Buemi were eliminated. In the second segment, Alonso kept the first position. The Williams and Renault drivers as well as Jaime Alguersuari , Kamui Kobayashi and Paul di Resta were eliminated. In the final segment, Vettel finally drove the fastest lap and achieved his eighth pole position of the season ahead of Hamilton and Button.

run
Button won the Grand Prix ahead of Vettel and Alonso. It was Button's 200th Grand Prix start.
The race was characterized by changing weather conditions. At the start the track was so wet that the drivers started on intermediates. The track then dried out and the drivers switched to slicks. There was another rain shower in the second half of the race, but switching to intermediates did not bring any advantage during this phase.
Hamilton, who had achieved the most lead laps, turned while in the lead, opted for the wrong strategy in the second half of the race and had to take a drive-through penalty. He finally finished in fourth place.
