Reports

background

After the Korean Grand Prix , Sebastian Vettel led the drivers' standings with 127 points from Jenson Button and 137 points from Fernando Alonso . Red Bull-Renault led the constructors' championship with 140 points ahead of McLaren-Mercedes and with 248 points ahead of Ferrari . Vettel and Red Bull-Renault were already established as world champions ahead of time.

At the Indian Grand Prix, Pirelli provided the drivers with the tire compounds hard (silver) and soft (yellow), as well as intermediates (light blue) and full wets (orange) for wet conditions . On the first day of training, the pilots received an additional set of Soft tire compound.

Vitantonio Liuzzi was replaced by Narain Karthikeyan before the Grand Prix at HRT . Karthikeyan received the car with the number 22, which he drove at the start of the season. Daniel Ricciardo took over the vehicle with the number 23 from Liuzzi.

Jarno Trulli completed his 250th and Felipe Massa his 150th race.

training

The first free practice session was interrupted shortly after it started because a dog was on the track. Lewis Hamilton finally set the first fastest time on this track ahead of Vettel and Mark Webber . Karun Chandhok took over the lotus from Heikki Kovalainen in this training session . After the practice, Hamilton and Sergio Pérez were given a starting place penalty of three positions by the race stewards because they did not slow down clearly enough when the yellow flags were waved twice. In the second free practice session, Massa was the fastest driver ahead of Vettel and Alonso. After Jérôme D'Ambrosio had an accident at Turn 11, training was briefly interrupted. In the third free practice session, Vettel set the fastest lap ahead of Button and Webber. D'Ambrosio and the two HRT pilots Karthikeyan and Ricciardo did not achieve a time within the 107 percent rule in any training session .

Qualifying

Vitaly Petrov set the fastest lap in the first qualifying segment . Due to transmission problems , Timo Glock was unable to set a time within the 107 percent rule and therefore failed to qualify. He was subsequently admitted to the race. In addition, the HRT and Lotus pilots as well as D'Ambrosio and Kamui Kobayashi did not make the leap into the second segment. In this, Vettel was the fastest driver. The Williams and Renault drivers as well as Sergio Pérez , Paul di Resta and Michael Schumacher were eliminated. In the final section, Vettel kept the lead and achieved pole position ahead of Hamilton and Webber. Qualifying ended under yellow as Massa drove into the lane at turn 9 with a damaged suspension.

run

Vettel won the race ahead of Button and Alonso.

Vettel led the race from pole position throughout and also drove the fastest race lap. With that he achieved a Grand Slam .
