Chlorochroa pinicola , as Föhrengast known is a Wanzenart from the family of stink bugs (Pentatomidae). It is one of three species in the genus Chlorochroa found in the Palearctic . The remaining 20species of Chlorochroa are native to America.
features
The 11 to 14 millimeter long bugs are olive green to brownish in color. The bug is brightly lined on its edges. The four outer antennal segments are black, while the basal antenna segment is brown-green. The second antennae is almost twice as long as the third. The lower end of the label (scutellum) is brightly colored.
distribution
The species is common in large parts of Europe, but rare. In the north, the occurrence extends to central Sweden. The species is absent in the British Isles.
Way of life
Chlorochroa pinicola is often found on pines such as Scots pine ( Pinus sylvestris ), black pine ( Pinus nigra ) or Pinus uncinata , sometimes also on spruce trees ( Picea ). The bug species forms one generation per year and overwinters as an imago.
