Chlorochroa (Chlorochroa) ligata is a Wanzenart from the family of stink bugs (Pentatomidae). The species is also called Conchuela or Conchuela Bug in English.
features
The 13 to 19 millimeter long bugs are variable in color; their basic color changes from black to green from south to north. The bugs are lined with orange on their edges. The lower end of the label (scutellum) is also colored orange.
distribution
The species occurs in the Nearctic . In Canada, its range extends over the western provinces (Saskatchewan to British Columbia). In the United States, it ranges from California to Texas. The species is also represented in Mexico.
Way of life
Chlorochroa ligata is a polyphagous type of bug. The species is considered a minor pest in the United States . The bugs suckle on stems and leaves, but prefer seeds and unripe fruits. To their food plants include numerous wild plants ( Ephedra aspera , yucca ( Yucca ), Rhus trilobata , Ambrosia species, Baccharis species, thistle ( Onopordum acanthium ), Parthenium hysterophorus , kali tragus , bearberry ( Arctostaphylos ), Kassien ( Cassia ), Prosopis - Species, Lycium pallidum , Solanum elaeagnifolium , French tamarisk , creosote bush ), but also some important cultivated plants (cotton, sorghum , corn , peach, bell pepper, tomato, wine, cabbage , alfalfa ).
The bug species overwinters as an imago.
