Piezodorus lituratus , also known as gorse stink bug , is a bug from the family of stink bugs (Pentatomidae).

features

The bugs are 10.0 to 12.0 millimeters long. The adults appear in two color variants. Those that appear in spring are predominantly green in color, whereas those found in late summer have purple-red markings on the pronotum and the corium of the hemielytras . Purple-red animals turn dark green again after wintering, later yellow-green. As with many other stink bugs, they turn darker in color before wintering.

distribution and habitat

The species is distributed from North Africa and almost all of Europe east to Siberia and Central Asia. It occurs everywhere in Central Europe and is common locally. Dry and warm habitats are populated, especially those with sandy soil. The species is widespread in Great Britain and Ireland and can be found in many habitats.

Way of life

One finds the animals at various legumes (Fabaceae), especially on Broom ( Sarothamnus scoparius ) and Dyer's broom ( Genista tinctoria ), but also alfalfa ( Medicago ), vetch ( Vicia ), sweet clover ( Melilotus ) Kronwicken ( Coronilla ) Esparsettes ( Onobrychis ), lupins ( Lupinus ) and others. They suck on the ripe fruits of the plants. The overwintering takes place as an imago, mostly in dry, loose soil litter under the food plants. It has the bugs in the winter on pines ( Pinus found). Mating takes place from May to July, and in spring the females lay clutches of two lines on the stems, leaves and fruits of the food plants, which consist of 10 to 20 eggs. The nymphs appear until September, the adults of the new generation from the end of July or August.

Stages of development
