Holcostethus albipes is a Wanzenart from the family of stink bugs (Pentatomidae).
features
The bugs grow to be about 8 millimeters long. They are gray-brown in color. The front edge of the pronotum is set off in white. The light-colored lower end of the scutellum is broadly rounded. The tylus (frontal wedge) is not enclosed by the Juga . The antennae are banded in black and white. The connexive (part of the abdomen that is visible on the side) is piebald in black and white. In contrast to the very similar species Holcostethus sphacelatus , the front edge of the pronotum is slightly concave, while the latter is straight. In addition, the puncture of the pronotum, shield and corium is less pronounced than in H. sphacelatus . Finally, the two species differ in the morphology of their genitals.
distribution
The type of bug is widespread in the Mediterranean region (Spain, southern France, Italy, western Balkans, Greece).
Way of life
As a host and food plant of Holcostethus albipes is the Hairy sparrows tongue ( Thymelaea hirsuta ), a plant from the family of Thymelaeaceae (Thymelaeaceae) called.
