Glaucias amyoti is a bug from the family of stink bugs (Pentatomidae). In English, the bug species also has the names Australasian green shield bug (" Australasian green shield bug ") or New Zealand vegetable bug ("New Zealand vegetable bug").

features

The bugs 13 to 18 millimeters long are colored light green. Glaucias amyoti differs from the very similar-looking species Nezara viridula in the absence of the three bright spots at the base of the label. The similar species, Cuspicona simplex, is smaller and has more acute angles on the sides of the pronotum .

distribution

The species occurs in the north and east of Australia (Northern Territory, Queensland and New South Wales). In New Zealand it is widespread on the North Island, on the South Island it occurs only in Nelson and in the Marlborough district . The bug species is also found in Papua New Guinea , Palau and Timor .

Way of life

The bugs are often found on trees and bushes. They appear only occasionally in horticulture as minor pests . The polyphagous bugs have a wide range of host and fodder plants. These include the plant genera Coprosma , Griselinia and Myoporum .
