Sciocoris sideritidis is a bug from the family of stink bugs (Pentatomidae).
features
The bugs become 4-6 mm long. They are pale brown in color and have a characteristic, broad and laterally expanded connexive (part of the abdomen that is visible on the side ) and a very rounded head. The membrane has dark spots. The bug species Sciocoris sideritidis can only be separated from the closely related species Sciocoris maculatus and Sciocoris canariensis on dorsal photos . In contrast to S. maculatus , the head of Sciocoris sideritidis is considered to be elongated, the light lateral edges of the pronotum are usually more pronounced. An examination of the male genitals is necessary for a reliable determination.
distribution
Sciocoris sideritidis is common in the western Mediterranean. The bug species occurs in Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, the French Mediterranean coast, Corsica , Sardinia , Sicily and Malta as well as in the Maghreb (Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco). The species is probably also represented on the Iberian Peninsula , particularly in Catalonia . The species is also found in Macaronesia ( Canary Islands and Madeira ).
Way of life
The host plants of Sciocoris sideritidis include ragweeds ( Senecio ). In addition, the Aeonium glandulosum from the thick-leaf family , which occurs in Madeira, and the plant species Sideritis dendro-chahorra from the genus of the limbs, which occurs in the Canary Islands, are mentioned as fodder plants for the larvae . The nymphs can be seen in June and July.
