The Korean School Bochum ( Korean 보훔 한글 학교 ) is a language school for Korean founded in 1976 in the urban area of Bochum . Today the school is run by the Korean School Bochum eV, founded in 2014 . V.

geography

The school rooms made available for use by the city of Bochum for a fee are located in the grammar school of the Graf-Engelbert-Schule , Königsallee 77-79.

history

The school was founded in November 1976 by a small group of Korean students from the Ruhr University Bochum and a Korean nurse from Bochum as a parents' initiative and initially used private rooms for teaching Korean to around 20 children, divided into two groups. But the Sunday school of the Korean parish, which was also founded in Bochum, can be seen as a forerunner of the school, as it was formed in a similar way in many Korean parishes of that day. One year after the school was founded, on November 4, 1977, the group founded the Association of the Korean Children's School in Bochum , which was recognized as a registered association by the Bochum Police President on October 19, 1978 and which was to be the sponsor of the school with changing school locations for several decades . In December 2015, the members and parents of the association decided to no longer run the association and to continue operating the school without any administrative effort, whereby the former association was forgotten in the following years. After the South Korean government, which supports Korean schools abroad financially and with educational material through the Overseas Koreans Foundation , changed its funding regulations, the parents of the school were faced with the need to re-officially sponsor the school in 2013. On March 14, 2014, the Korean School Bochum e. V. founded the school as the new sponsor and transferred the parents' initiative and its assets to the new association. The entry in the register of associations took place on July 1, 2014 and in September 2015 it was recognized as a non-profit association. Since then, the school has been developed further, a group of toddlers was set up for the first time in 2014 and the range of courses for adults has been further expanded.

On December 15, 2016, the school celebrated its 40th anniversary at its annual school festival.

School profile

In addition to learning the Korean script and language, the school also teaches cultural topics through special events, for example the Seollal Festival ( 설날 ) or the Chuseok Festival ( 추석 ), and has a few project days in its program. As of 2019, the school operated a total of eight classes, which were structured as follows:

  • Small children group, age group from 2 to 3 years,
  • Kindergarten class, age group from 4 to 5 years,
  • Primary school class, age group from 6 to 9 years,
  • Secondary school, age group from 10 to 13 years,
  • Upper school class, age group from 14 to 17 years,
  • Class for adults beginners I, from 16 years,
  • Class for adults beginners II, from 16 years,
  • Advanced adult class, from 16 years.

The lessons in the adult classes are held in the form of a course.

In addition, the Korean School Bochum has a drum group called Pungmulban ( 풍물반 ), which has already performed at the Expo 2015 in Milan (Korean pavilion), at the 69th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Bremen and at the "MusiCircus" Oper Dortmund had.
