Euschistus (Euschistus) servus is a type of bug from the family of stink bugs (Pentatomidae). The English name is Brown Stink Bug (literally "brown stink bug ").

features

The 10 to 15 millimeter long gray-yellow bugs are darkly pigmented. The pronotum has rounded angles on the sides. The fourth and fifth antennae are darker than the rest.

Occurrence

Euschistus servus occurs in the Nearctic . The distribution area extends from southern Canada over the United States to Mexico.

Way of life

Euschistus servus is a polyphagous type of bug with a wide range of forage plants. The bugs cause damage to various crops such as soybean, corn, cotton, alfalfa, sorghum , tobacco and pecan . In the USA, Euschistus servus is considered the most economically important pest of its genus.

Subspecies

A distinction is made between two subspecies, the former being represented in the north of the USA and southern Canada and the second in the south of the USA:

  • Euschistus servus euschistoides ( Vollenhoven , 1868)
  • Euschistus servus servus ( Say , 1832)
