World Congress of Ukrainians
The World Congress of Ukrainians ( Ukrainian Світовий конґрес українців , English Ukrainian World Congress , Ukrainian World Congress ) is an international non-governmental organization that represents the interests of Ukrainians outside of Ukraine . The management is held by an Executive Committee. President is Eugene Czolij.
activity
The association campaigns for the rights of Ukrainians abroad. He supports their organizations in the individual countries and networks them.
The World Congress is also committed to strengthening Ukraine and its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Structures
There are member organizations in 33 countries. The association is active in more than 15 other countries. 12 different commissions and committees work in it, e. B. Representation at the UN.
The seat is in Toronto , Canada . The World Congress has been an advisory member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council since 2003.
history
In 1967 the organization was founded as the World Congress of Free Ukraine in New York City . In 1993 it changed its name to its current name.
In 2014 he sent an international observer mission to the presidential and parliamentary elections in Ukraine . In 2015 the Russian State Duma proposed declaring it an “undesirable foreign organization” in Russia. An official registration has not yet taken place.
