Perillus bioculatus is a Wanzenart of the subfamily Asopinae , the family of the stink bugs counts (Pentatomidae). The type of bug bears the English name Two-spotted Stink Bug (" two-spotted stink bug ").

features

The medium-sized 10–12 mm long bugs have an unmistakable pattern, but the color is variable. The basic color of the bugs is dark brown to black. The bugs have two distinctive black spots on the front pronotum. On the label (scutellum) there is a black Y-shaped pattern framed by a triangular drawing. The basic color of the front pronotum and the pattern on the label are typically red or orange. However, there is also a color variant in which this is cream-colored.

Occurrence

Perillus bioculatus originally only occurred in the Nearctic . The range of the bedbug species extends over Mexico , the United States (from the east to the west coast) and the south of Canada . The species was introduced in various European countries for biological plant protection. However, it has only established itself in Asia Minor and the Balkans .

Way of life

The bugs predatory feed on arthropods , especially beetles and beetle larvae. The Colorado potato beetle ( Leptinotarsa decemlineata ), an important agricultural pest, is one of their prey . Perillus bioculatus is therefore considered a beneficial organism .

The clutch size of Perillus bioculatus usually consists of 100 to 200 eggs. The development of the bug includes five nymph stages. The complete development period, beginning with the oviposition, is 25–30 days. The species usually trains 2–3 generations per year. The species overwinters as an imago.

In the first nymph stage, the larvae feed on phytophagus and suckle on the stems of potato plants. The first four nymph stages show a gregarious behavior .

etymology

The species name bioculatus is derived from Latin. The prefix bi stands for “two” or “double”. oculatus means "with eyes".
