China via hilaris is a Wanzenart from the family of stink bugs (Pentatomidae). The English name is Green Stink Bug ("Green Stink Bug").

features

The greenish colored bugs are 14 to 19 mm long. They resemble Nezara viridula . The types can be differentiated by the olfactory gland openings that are located on the abdomen on the sternum between the middle and rear legs. In Chinavia hilaris they are long and curved, whereas in Nezara viridula they are short and broad. Chinavia hilaris also has antennae with black bands, while Nezara viridula has red banded antennae .

Occurrence

Chinavia hilaris occurs in the Nearctic (Canada, United States, Mexico). It is the most common stink bug species in North America.

Way of life

The polyphagous bugs are considered to be agricultural pests . Both adult bugs and nymphs can be found on various crops such as soybeans and cotton as well as on fruit trees (especially peaches ) and vegetables.

The usual development time from egg to adult bug is 35 days. The bug goes through five nymph stages.
