The species occurs in the western Palearctic . It is widespread in the Mediterranean area, but absent in Central Europe.
Way of life
Codophila varia is a polyphagous species of bug. They are often found on Asteraceae and umbelliferae (Apiaceae). Their host and fodder plants include man litter ( Eryngium ), thyme , true hogweed ( Acanthus mollis ), cumin ( bunium ) and carrots ( Daucus ).
Similar species
Codophila varia and Carpocoris pudicus look very similar. The shape and color of the front edge of the pronotum are named as a distinguishing feature. Another characteristic that distinguishes Codophila varia from the Carpocoris species is the shape of the lower end of the corium .
