The African Women's Basketball Championship 2000 , the fifteenth African Women's Basketball Championship , took place between November 5 and 12, 2000 in Tunis , Tunisia , which hosted the championship for the third time. The winner was the national team of Senegal , which won the title for the ninth time, for the second time in a row. Tunisia was beaten in the final . For the first time a team from Morocco and Niger took part in the tournament.

In the preliminary round there were two groups (group A and group B) of five teams each. Each team played against each other of the respective group exactly once, so that each team played four games (a total of 20 games were played). There were two points for each win and one point for a defeat. The two teams with the highest points in each group advanced to the semi-finals. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison decided . The third placed players played for fifth place, the fourth placed for seventh place and the last placed in each group for ninth place.
